Population stuff

This article (and a similar one here) states that based on the current gender imbalance in China's birth rates, by 2020 there will be 30 million more men in China than women.

Heck, the entire population of Australia is only 20 million.

It also looks as though the forthcoming Year of the Pig could spark a baby boom in China.

Hey Emma,

I love reading your journals. You lead such an interesting life! I am constantly amazed at all the brilliant stuff you do. I must have missed something though...do you definately know you are getting a daughter????
Karen.
P.S. I sent you an email about a week ago...did you get it?

hiya Karen! I did get your email, sorry I haven't replied yet... been at the Learning Place conference all week up the coast.

No, we don't know that we'll definitely be referred a girl, but looking at it statistically it's most likely - ie. 99%ish. Most Chinese babies who are adopted are female.

I'm glad you enjoy reading my journals - I don't update as much as I used to (when I look back five - six years ago I can see that I am very slack now in comparison)... maybe that can be one of my new year resolutions - update more!
