Evangeline
Oh, wow. I've been experiencing sweet serendipity a bit recently. I was at Central Station today getting a train home from work in the city. It was only 11.30am and I wasn't feeling so well, so decided to head home and keep working from there. I usually take a short-cut through the side of the train station, but unthinkingly found myself walking a less direct route for no particular reason, when I heard someone say my name. I turned around and there was Tracy.
Tracy is 17 year old from China. She came over on a two-week study tour four years ago and we were her homestay family. I hadn't been in contact with her since.
Tracy looked at me and said, "I miss you so much. I'm so happy to see you. I try to email but didn't work."
Wow. It's so great. I gave her my business card and told her to call or email me and we'll get together. She thinks she'll be in Australia for about 7 years now (two years finishing high school and then university). At the moment she's living with a family about ten minutes drive from us. This is AWESOME!
Oh, and her English name isn't Tracy anymore. She chose a new one - Evangeline. Isn't that just beautiful?

That is so great for both of you. I'm glad you found each other again. Life is funny sometimes. I think that Evangeline is a beautiful name.
Can you do me a favor and visit my blog? Each morning my children check our counter and world map for a hit from Australia. It's the one country we've been looking to see but haven't so far.
I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!
Wow, that is so great for you and Evangeline! It will be great for you both to be in touch again, and for her to have that support from you.
I'm so excited at that news as I have thought of her often. I can't wait to catch up with her again and make her a part of our family again.
What a cool story! That's awesome!
Thank you so much Emma for coming to our blog!! My boys have already seen the flag on the Neocounter and tomorrow morning a red dot will show up in Australia on our world map.
Have a wonderful evening!
Hey, when you have her over, maybe we could come to visit also and bring Holly, our 17 year old Chinese home stay student.
Sounds good, Sandie!
Evangeline is one of the names I've been thinking of using! It's a family name and not too popular.
I wonder what brought her to that name?
Hi Emma
I saw your comment on my blog and popped over to check yours out. First of all Happy Birthday from another fellow Aquarian. (I'm Feb though.)
I don't know how much of my blog you've read but I'm also adopting without knowing if I'm able to have a child biologically. Never tried. I get the same response sometimes... that people expect adoption to be the 2nd choice.
I can't believe how much you have to go through to adopt in your country. Wow! I guess I'm more thankful now for my process even though it seems long and hard. I give you so much credit for your choices. Good luck.
That is so great that you ran into each other again! Evangeline is a very pretty name.
Wow! That is SO AWESOME!!! What a blessing to run into your dear friend like that!
I also read your husband's post about the site where you can converse with someone wanting to learn the language. I want to check that site out for myself! Really, some of the richest friendships I have had over the years have been ones that I have struck up with folks who are trying to learn the language. I am shameless...when I run across anyone who can only speak a word or two of English, I try and find someone nearby who can translate enough for me to ask them if they would like to practice their English on me. I love helping folks learn English. The friendships that result are so precious. I have recruited Chinese students, Korean students, and Mexican students.
I really like your blog! I've only read the first three or so posts (had to stop right here and comment before I go on!). I'll dig into older posts after I quit yakking here! I'd like to add your site the blog roll in my own side-bar if that is okay...so I can easily find my way back here in the future!
