942

That's how many days of dossiers need to be processed before the CCAA gets to our log in date (8th Sept 2008). Nine hundred and forty-two. I was planning to fill a jar with 942 M&Ms and each month when referrals occur I would take out and eat the number of dates they got through. Only thing is, the M&Ms would probably go stale by the time our date rolled around. With the average referral rate about 6 days/month, predictions are that we won't receive our allocation until August 2016. HA! So I need to think of another fun way to mark the referrals each month. Any ideas?

(And for the record, I do not believe it will take eight years to get to our LID... I hold hope that things will improve!)

I have a suggestion... instead of marking off the months with MnM, why not mark of the years with MuM.... maybe every two years, have your own baby. :)
I'll bet that as soon as you find out your pregnant with your first one, you'll get a call to say Bok Choy is waiting for you to collect her.
And I'll eat all the MnMs for you.

Man...maybe the CCAA will decide to enlarge the small group of workers that match babies to families and speed things up....

It frustrates me that it isn't a matter of there not being enough babies available, but just political bureaucracy on the Chinese end. When we adopted our youngest child five years ago, our translator told us that only 4% of the babies in her orphanage were allowed to be released for adoption that year. The government dictates to each individual orphanage how many children they can list to be adopted internationally...96% of the babies in Rayna's orphanage were made to stay in the orphanage because of the numbers game. Several years later, I "met" on line several families from Spain and France who had adopted children from that very same orphanage that were the same age as my daughter...and guess what?...their babies (toddlers by then) had entered the orphanage at the same time my daughter did, but were not released for adoption for several years longer because they were part of the 96% that had to be retained by the orphanage that year.

It is frustrating. I cannot believe how long the waits have extended to. If it were a disproportion between adoptive families and babies available it wouldn't make me angry...but when the incredibly ridiculous waits have nothing to do with availability, that makes me mad...more for the sake of the babies, even, than for the waiting families.

Anyway, sorry to vent. I guess I should just be happy the CCAA allows some of these babies to have families....

For the next 942 days you could put a coin in a jar each day. Then, when your batch is processed you could take that money and go celebrate in a special way.
